Kaizen

How Billing Works

Kaizen bills a fixed monthly subscription plus optional usage overage. This page explains the monthly wallet, how overage is invoiced, and what happens when a payment fails or you cancel.

One monthly wallet

Each billing period you get a single usage allowance — a "wallet" — that covers all AI features in Kaizen: workflow executions, the Zensei assistant, AI game generation, and AI field generation. Every AI action draws down the same balance.

  • Free: $10 of usage per period, enforced as a hard cap.
  • Pro: $20 of usage included in your $20/month subscription.
  • Squad: $40 per seat, pooled across all members.

See Usage & Limits for exactly what counts as usage.

Overage and threshold billing

On Pro and Squad, you can spend beyond your included allowance. Usage past the included amount is tracked as unbilled overage.

To avoid a single large bill at the end of the period, Kaizen uses threshold billing: whenever your unbilled overage crosses $50, that amount is invoiced immediately.

Example:

  • Day 10: overage reaches $50 → invoiced $50
  • Day 15: additional usage brings total overage to $60 ($10 unbilled) → below threshold, no charge yet
  • Day 20: unbilled overage crosses $50 again → invoiced

This spreads overage charges across the period instead of one big charge at the end.

On the Free plan there is no overage. When you hit the $10 cap, AI actions pause until the next period — you are never charged a surprise amount.

Raising your cap

By default your usage limit equals your plan's included amount. On Pro and Squad you can raise your cap in Settings → Subscription to allow more usage before actions pause. Usage above the included allowance is billed as overage via threshold billing (above).

Free plans cannot raise their cap — upgrade to Pro to unlock overage.

Prepaid credits

Pro and Squad accounts can pre-fund usage by purchasing prepaid credits in amounts from $10 to $1000. Credits are drawn down by AI usage the same way as the monthly allowance, and let you cap spend to a known amount without waiting for an invoice.

Payment failures

If a subscription or overage payment fails, Kaizen retries the charge. While a payment is unresolved, AI-powered executions are paused to prevent runaway usage on an unpaid account. Restore access by updating your payment method in Settings → Subscription; retried and successful payments resume executions.

Cancellation

You can cancel any paid plan from Settings → Subscription. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period — you keep paid features and your usage allowance until the period ends, then the account moves to the Free plan. You are not refunded for the current period, and no further subscription charges are made.

Monitoring your bill

Review current usage, projected charges, and invoice history in Settings → Subscription. You can also query usage programmatically — see Usage & Limits and the Cost Calculation page.
